The University of California Davis Health Systems will now be making record of sexual orientation and gender identity. They say that with recording this information that health care facilities will be able to provide better care for those classified as LGBTQ; and that it will make these communities'  health a priority.

 

The ability to label your electronic health records with your sexual orientation, and gender identity seems  wrong to me. Especially in a time when there are still hate crimes happening to this population. It would seem safer if health care providers advertised that they are LGBTQ friendly and are happy to work with this population.  That way LGBTQ population don't have to a label on their electronic health record of their sexual orientation and gender identity. I think people should have a right to privacy, and not have to label themselves.

They reach their consumers differently now, and this has created a new way to build loyalty that, in turn, drives business. Today we not only buy a company's product but "like" it on Facebook and join a community of fans... The LGBT community may be the best example of this. In 2011 Harris Interactive released an often-quoted study that demonstrated that LGBT people are dedicated to brands that advertise with LGBT imagery, support LGBT nonprofit groups, and provide equal benefits to LGBT employees.
