In what is set to be the first in a series of LGBT New Media Expo’s debuting in 2017, our event in Las Vegas, held in conjunction with the CMI Tourism & Hospitality Conference, was a success! We had exhibitors including .LGBT, IGLTA, Revry.TV, QLife Magazine, Gay.Vegas, GayVegas.com, ILoveGayPalmSprings.com, GayDesertGuide.com, Here Media, Q.Digital, Remember Cuba, Man About World, Blu Magazine, JoshRimer.com and our company, Pink Banana Media. The folks who developed the “Socio – Shake and Connect” app were there as well, helping our attendees and exhibitors connect like never before!

You'd have to be living under a rock to have missed these ads if you were living or visiting New York City recently and perusing your social media feeds. Between geo-targeted Facebook ads and geo-targeted banner ads on LGBT websites and mobile apps, these ads were everywhere.
Matt Skallerud's insight:

What's interesting about this and several other campaigns targeting both HIV and STD prevention is their strong use of social media and mobile app advertising. At recent health conferences around the world, attendees have been learning more and more where their at-risk audience is at... gay mobile apps (not LGBT, but specifically gay).  These gay mobile apps including Grindr, Scruff, Jack'd and Hornet. In a recent story in the New York Times, researchers have found that Grindr is a highly effective way of getting gay black and Hispanic men to try home HIV self-testing kits.

We're going to go out on a limb here, stick our necks out, and make a strong statement - we believe the "TwitterSphere" is at a unique place in history, sitting on the edge of its tipping point.  We believe it's sitting at that very same inflection point the Internet was back in the late 90's, when most people were accessing it via AOL, Netscape was the dominant browser, and a comment we heard time and time again was "the Internet is simply the CB radio of our time... it too shall pass".

Matt Skallerud's insight:

Fast forward to today, and with everything that's taken place since then, including the dot com bust and the subsequent growth of strong Internet-based businesses from all facets of life and industry, it's easy to see that doubting the direction and growth of the Internet was misguided at best.

The LGBT New Media Expo & Trade Show is now less than one week away, on December 13th from 2 to 6 pm at the Vdara Hotel in Las Vegas… we’ll have a full house of exhibitors, and the attendee RSVPs are through the roof, with both the CMI Tourism folks coming at the beginning of the trade show & expo, and the local Las Vegas business community coming towards the latter half of the trade show & expo.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

We have two new presentations scheduled… one by the Q.Digital team entitled “Connecting to LGBTQ’s via Publisher Partners, Influencers & Branded Content” and the 2nd by Revry.TV entitled “Beyond YouTube: The Rise of Premium Digital Platforms“.

 

After the trade show & expo, the folks at QVegas and Gay.Vegas have put together an after-party reception at the Clique Bar & Lounge inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel, next door to our venue at the Vdara. This event is from 7-9 pm, and includes open bar hosted by QVegas Magazine, Gay.Vegas and the Clique Bar & Lounge from 7-8 pm.
