A feminist and a dude who feels awfully oppressed walk into a warehouse... It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it’s actually the setup for Heineken’s “Worlds Apart” experiment. Created by Publicis London, it’s being billed as the antidote to Pepsi’s obtusely pop-candy take on our messy political reality.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

Instead of positioning resistance as the new Coachella, Heineken takes a more measured approach. Ahead of the operation, it filmed six people stating strongly held beliefs—that men are oppressed, that the fight for feminism is far from over; that climate change is real or “piffle”; that transgender people need a voice; that “transgender” is nonsense semantics. Those unwitting candidates were then paired with their opposites and sent together into warehouses, where they found themselves with some instructions and a piece of furniture to build. Guess what it is?

Nationally, LGBT businesses contributed more than a trillion dollars to the US economy and more than 30,000 jobs in 2015 with numbers continually on the rise.* In New Jersey, the NJ LGBT Chamber of Commerce wants to elevate the profile of these businesses in the tri-state region.

Here Media is putting Out and The Advocate up for sale, Media Ink has learned. Sources say Here has hired Houlihan Lokey to shop the two magazines and their related digital sites catering to the LGBT crowd.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

While the magazines are said to barely break even, their gay and lesbian-themed Web sites are money makers, bringing a profit of about $3 million for the combined print and digital operation on revenue of about $15 million.  The titles since 2009 have been owned by Los Angeles-based Here, which operates it through Regent Entertainment Media.
