Fort Lauderdale tourism—which has been courting lesbian and gay visitors for decades—on New Year's Eve will roll out a new campaign that could be a first in the travel category, with transgender models starring in mainstream media ads.

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau advertising campaign, created by Fort Lauderdale-based Starmark International, is kicking off with two new videos on twin billboards at 1515 Broadway and on a bowtie billboard at 1500 Broadway, both in New York's Times Square.

The National LGBT Media Association (NGMA) has announced its third annual Ad POP award winners, including many top corporate brand names. NGMA member papers have each selected one top award winner in their regional markets, plus one national AdPOP has been given to Target Corporation.

The Ad POPs (Pride in Online and Print) reward the best representations of LGBT advertising in online and print campaigns, as placed in regional LGBT newspapers in its member cities. LGBT marketing is most successful when it is local. The Ad Pops recognize clients, creative and placement agencies, and winners are selected based on their image and messaging.

This survey was fielded in English, Spanish, French and Hungarian languages.

"Drag queens are the new pop stars," Randy Barbato, co-creator of "RuPaul's Drag Race" explained... At DragCon, attendees spent over $4 million on wigs, makeup, art and more. That kind of business and marketability might've been completely unheard of not too long ago. If an ad agency featured a drag queen, they usually represented surprise and deception because a man was dressed as a woman.

As Pride Month comes to an end, the slew of marches, celebrations, and events that commemorate the progress made by the LGBT community in pursuit of equality, as well as challenges of the past and those to come, slowly leave the calendar. Many brands and corporations have progressively played a more prominent role in the organization and sponsoring of such events as the years have gone by. This has not been without controversy, as many in the LGBT community worry if the role of corporate sponsors in Pride events has led to a change in what Pride signifies for both LGBT persons and allies in the 21st century.
