Here Media is putting Out and The Advocate up for sale, Media Ink has learned. Sources say Here has hired Houlihan Lokey to shop the two magazines and their related digital sites catering to the LGBT crowd.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

While the magazines are said to barely break even, their gay and lesbian-themed Web sites are money makers, bringing a profit of about $3 million for the combined print and digital operation on revenue of about $15 million.  The titles since 2009 have been owned by Los Angeles-based Here, which operates it through Regent Entertainment Media.

Washington Blade to launch newspaper in Los Angeles | LGBT Online Media, Marketing and Advertising | Scoop.it

The Washington Blade, the nation’s first and most acclaimed LGBT newspaper, today announced plans to launch a new publication, the Los Angeles Blade, on March 24.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

The Los Angeles Blade will cover Los Angeles and California news, politics, opinion, arts and entertainment and will feature national and international coverage from the Washington Blade’s award-winning reporting team. Troy Masters, a veteran of LGBT media, was named publisher and editor of the new venture. Veteran Los Angeles journalist Karen Ocamb was named senior contributing writer.
